Week 2; Saturday Preview

Dan Hough13 May 2022 - 06:19

Five games on Saturday. Ones, fours and fives at home, twos and threes hit the road

Week 2 of the 2022 campaign sees all five TCC league sides in Saturday action. The ones and twos both lock horns with Hornsey (the ones being on the Green), whilst the threes travel to the Woodside Park Club to play Hampstead IVs. The fours are at Broom Road where they play Kenton’s third string. The fifths, meanwhile, welcome the Middlesex Titans’ 4s to (one of) their new home(s); Fairfield Recreation Ground in Kingston.

1s look to get back on the horse
The ones started their campaign last week by taking a bit of a hiding from Teddington. They won’t be the only side that suffers that fate in 2022, but they will certainly be keen to bounce back and begin getting some points on the board.

Hornsey also suffered a heavy defeat in Week 1, going down by 135 runs against near-neighbours North Middlesex. They, too, will be looking to re-group and move on. In 2021 it was their bowling attack that really caught they eye; Arthur George, Jack Bruce and Nia-Amaa Ollennu all know what they are doing. It’ll be interesting to see how the Ts get on against that trio.

The ones look strong. The return of Parminder Singh sees the dynamic duo of Monty Panesar and Parminder back in tandem, with Selvarasa Mathushan dropping down to the 2nds. The rest of the side remains much as was against Teddington.

The full XI is Carlos Nunes, Patrick Dixon, Ben Ellis, Ben Leale-Green, Don Manuwelge, Adam Mather, Rashid Mullazahdah, Scott Newman, Monty Panesar, Parminder Singh and Neville Talbot.

Twos travel to Hornsey
The twos will be setting out on their first trek round the North Circular of the season. May the traffic gods be kind.

Week 1 went well for Nakul Vishvanath and his troops. They won impressively on the Green against North London. Hornsey came second in their encounter with Eastcote, but it was a close run thing; Eastcote got home with just two wickets to spare.

Selvarasa Mathushan comes in from the ones, and he’ll add something with bat and ball. He replaces Simon Rivers. The Ts may well be quieter in the field as a result, but they’ll still be in confident mood. Ajmal Allahdad looks in decent nick, as does the unflappable force that is Prabhu Dhev. Eugene Berger is quietly making an impact and Blake van der Linde continues to look pretty good with bat and ball. Nakul Vishvanath and his side travel with confidence.

The full team is Nakul Vishvanath, Ajmal Allahdad, Eugene Berger, Prabhu Dhev, Dave Jones, Selvarasa Mathushan, Nikhil Nomula, Sanjit Sandhu, Guriqbal Singh, Blake van der Linde and Ethan Wright.

Threes go to Hampstead
The threes are also on the road, this time to the Woodside Park Club where they’ll be playing Hampstead IVs.

Neither Hampstead nor the Ts managed a win in Week 1. The Ts lost against a strong Highgate side whereas Hampstead put 316 on the board and still lost – with something to spare – against Eastcote. Quite the chase, that one. They’ll both subsequently be looking to get going win-wise this weekend.

Dan Taylor comes in to help out in the batting department. With him slotting in alongside Dev Tomlinson and Craig Romeril it looks like Hinay Dassani has something to work with there. Bowling-wise it’s good to see Mehran Iqbal back in the starting XI; he was missed last week. He’ll be teaming up with Shahjahan Bozdar and the irrepressible Robbie Bosier. Fingers crossed Alex Waddell also gets his alarm clock sorted out…

The full side is Hinay Dassani, Robbie Bosier, Shahjahan Bozdar, Rajdeep Chaudhary, Mehran Iqbal, Uzzi Khan, Craig Romeril, Vishal Singh, Dan Taylor, Dev Tomlinson and Alex Waddell.

Fours welcome Kenton IIIs
The fours will be having their first run out of the season on home soil. They welcome Kenton IIIs.

Kenton got 10 points on the board in Week 1, squeaking past Indian Gymkhana by two wickets. They will be a tricky opponent and one not to be taken lightly.

Nihal Tomar has done a bit of pack-shuffling with his side. The ageless Andy Donelan comes in at the top of the order whilst on the bowling front Ozzie Qavi is a welcome addition. Mark Smith comes in for his season debut and Aaron Henley returns from injury to take his place in the starting XI. Martin Hedley also comes in for Max Hunt.

The full side is Nihal Tomar, Andy Donelan, Martin Hedley, Aaron Henley, Jonty Hunt, Ben Phillamore, Oliver Prescott-Brann, Ozzie Qavi, Virender Singh, Mark Smith and Chetan Ubale.

5s welcome MTSSC 4s
The fifths will be looking to build on their dramatic last ball win in Week 1. They welcome the Middlesex Titans to the Fairfield Ground in Kingston.

Harmeet Singh has found himself forced to spin the selection wheel a little, but he’s still able to bring in players who’ll be able to contribute. Jon Bosier, the best all-rounder in the club, has finally managed to sort his flight back from Greece out and he’ll be back all guns blazing. Mike Richardson also comes in.

The rest of the side is as was. The hero of Week 1, Pete Burke, will be looking to repeat his game-winning performance, whilst Zafar Ali also started brightly at the top of the batting order. Throw in young guns like Thomas Hopkins and Frankie Lingemann and the 5s are looking good.

The full side is Harmeet Singh, Zafar Ali, Jon Bosier, Pete Burke, Saul Crawford, Thomas Hopkins, Max Hunt, Frankie Lingemann, Mike Richardson, Dean Stonebridge and Liam Tebb.

Go well everyone!
The good early season weather looks like it’s set to continue through Saturday so if you’re not playing do pop down to one of the grounds and support the sides. If that’s not an option, then the ones’ game will be live-streamed via our YouTube channel (see here). Do take a look.
