Twickenham 84 all out
Kenton 79 all out
By Praween Siriwardena
Twickenham won the toss and chose to bat — thinking that they knew their Broom Road dust bowl better than anyone. And to be fair, they weren’t wrong… but batting on it turned out to be even tougher than expected.
The pitch offered absolutely nothing — slow, low, and borderline unplayable at times. Scoring was a real challenge, and survival felt like the only game plan. We lost wickets regularly, but a gritty 24 from Jonty Hunt, along with double-figure knocks from Rajdeep Choudhary (13) and Ollie George (12), helped Twickenham limp to 84 all out.
It didn’t feel like a winning score at the time — but Twickenham knew that if anyone could make a low total feel big, it was their bowling attack.
Kenton started steadily, and at 34-0 they looked well in control. But the game flipped completely thanks to the magical duo of Imran Niazai and Praween Siriwardena.
Niazai struck first and then ripped through their lineup with pace, control, and aggression, ending with a magnificent 5-wicket haul. Siriwardena was ice-cold under pressure, bowling smart, accurate spells to finish with 4 wickets of his own. Both bowled superbly, but more importantly, they bowled as a unit — feeding off each other’s pressure and keeping the squeeze on.
Fielding backed it all up — full commitment, no loose efforts. Special mention to Robbie Bosier, who pulled off an absolute screamer at a crucial point off Siriwardena’s bowling. One of those catches that gave the whole team a lift.
Kenton were eventually bowled out for 79, but not before they handed us 5 crucial penalty runs when they were bowling — a moment that proved decisive in a game of such fine margins.
In the end, it was a 5-run win for us. Low-scoring, scrappy, and full of tension — but these are the wins you really remember. Not just for the result, but for the fight, the belief, and a bowling duo who turned the match on its head.
Hats off to Niazai and Siriwardena — absolute match-winners on a pitch that gave nothing easily.
