Twickenham’s U9s produced an excellent all-round performance with both bat and ball to secure a convincing 39-run victory in their first match on the Green.

After winning the toss, Twickenham chose to bowl, with overnight rain and early morning dew offering the prospect of movement for the opening bowlers. Zac White and Holly Burston opened the attack from the Green Spice End with an impressive spell of accurate pace bowling. Both conceded just four runs from their two overs, with Zac claiming three wickets in a superb bowling performance.

Further wickets followed through disciplined team bowling. Freddie Homewood finished with excellent figures of 2–5–1, Charlie Ross Sampson returned 2–8–1, and Alfie Fernandez picked up a sharp caught-and-bowled on his way to 2–15–1.

Extras were the top-scorer for Hampton Wick with 57 runs — something for the team to tighten up at training in the weeks ahead.

There was also some standout fielding. Freddie Homewood produced a direct-hit run-out, while Zac White held on to a high catch that hung in the air forever before being safely gathered with both hands.

The bowling and fielding effort restricted Hampton Wick to a first-innings total of 263.

Twickenham’s reply began with Holly Burston (3) and Arthur Keates (4), who recovered well after an early run-out mix-up to see off the new ball. Holly showed great determination in batting on despite a fractured wrist — a fantastic effort.

James Buxton and Orson Hill then added six runs before the innings gathered real momentum through Kit May (12) and Zac White (14), who both found the boundary regularly on either side of the wicket.

Charlie Ross Sampson (7) and Connor Thomson (11) extended Twickenham’s advantage further before the final pairing sealed the victory. Freddie Homewood top-scored with an excellent 14, including two boundaries, well supported by Alfie Fernandez (4) as Twickenham completed a strong and deserved winnon the opening game of the season.
