Twickenham captain Connor won the toss and elected to field first. Charlie and Dom opened the bowling, with Dom making an immediate impact by claiming his customary wicket, clean bowling the opener with his fourth delivery of the day.

Charlie produced an outstanding opening spell of accurate bowling, taking one wicket while conceding just a single run, including a maiden over.

Freddie was the standout bowler of the match. His excellent two-over spell returned figures of three wickets for just six runs, including two batters bowled and one caught and bowled.

Ted Aldred made a welcome return to the side and again added to his growing list of victims, proving once again that accuracy is often the most valuable asset when bowling.

Twickenham's other wicket came courtesy of Felix Morris, who added another bowled dismissal to his season's tally.

Overall, it was a good bowling and fielding performance. Twickenham claimed seven wickets, finding the breakthroughs that had proved elusive against Richmond the previous week. Overthrows were kept to a minimum, although extras remained stubbornly high at 47 runs conceded. Even so, Hampton Hill finished on a gettable target of 293.

The message before the innings was value your wicket, communicate loudly and clearly, and run the singles.

Freddie and Alfie opened the batting against two very capable opening bowlers. Both showed excellent technique, with Alfie playing some classy clips off his legs and Freddie striking some attractive on-drives.

Unfortunately, a couple of run-outs and a well-taken catch curtailed what was otherwise an excellent start. As the innings progressed, wickets through catches and run-outs became the defining feature of Twickenham's reply.

Emily and Ted both played sensible, watchful innings, demonstrating the value of preserving their wickets and both finishd unbeaten. Both ran well between the wickets. However, Hampton Hill's disciplined bowling attack conceded just a single extra during their four-over spell.

The scoring rate increased when Arthur and Felix came together. Arthur finished as Twickenham's top scorer with an impressive 14 runs, well supported by Felix's enthusiastic calling and running between the wickets.

Their partnership demonstrated that putting bat on ball and running positively is often the most effective way to score. Hampton Hill's otherwise disciplined fielding began to crack under the pressure of some highly ambitious running, although another run-out and catch again reduced the pair's overall contribution.

Connor and Orson scored 11 and 12 runs respectively. Connor produced the shot of the day with a technically excellent hook shot that raced hard and low to the boundary. His innings included two boundaries, while Orson also found the rope with a classy hook shot. Connor finished his innings with an outstanding 100% strike rate.

The final pair of Charlie and Dom had plenty to do. After both contributing strongly with the ball, they faced some of Hampton's strongest bowlers, who continued to chip away at Twickenham's batting line-up. Despite batting positively and hitting some lively cricket shots, the task proved too great.

Twickenham eventually finished 48 runs short of their target. The loss of ten wickets proved costly, with catches and run-outs regularly handing the initiative back to the Hill.

Running aggressively and hitting in the air always carries an element of risk, and Hampton Hill capitalised on the opportunities with an excellent display of ball catching, backed up by accurate bowling that conceded just 21 extras.

Despite the result, there were plenty of positives. The bowling attack picked up the wickets that had eluded them the week before, and the fielding was sharp.

Reducing the number of wickets lost, particularly through run-outs and catches, and reducing the number of extras will be the key to turning good individual performances into victories in the weeks ahead.
