Once more unto the breach. MCCL Preview, Week 18

Once more unto the breach. MCCL Preview, Week 18

Dan Hough4 Sep 2025 - 22:13

Now or never for the 2s, 4s and 5s

It’s once more unto the breach for the five Twickenham CC senior sides as the 2025 league season comes to a close. Three of the five sides (see the league tables here) have plenty to play for on the final day (for the full lowdown on that here), whilst the ones are already up and the threes are safely mid-table. A potentially knicker-gripping final weekend subsequently beckons.

Ones travel to Barnes
The 1st XI secured the Division One title in Week 17, but they still travel to Barnes looking to end the season on a high. And, given how consistent the side has been through the season, there’s no reason that that can’t happen.

Preet Himanshukumar has had a particularly profitable season with the bat. He’s claimed 553 league runs so far at an average of 46.08. Impressive. Don Manuwelge has also proven to be a consistent performer (388 runs at 32.3) as has Patrick Dixon (380 runs at 34.55). All three will want to end the campaign well.

With the ball Angus Parker has put in a decent shift. He’s claimed 29 league wickets at 19.3. A good effort for a man enjoying his first English summer. Angus McKenzie (17 wickets at 23.1) and Adam Mather (15 wickets at 17.3) have also come to the party admirably.

On Saturday the ones travel at full strength. The side is Carlos Nunes, Pat Dixon, Preet Himanshukumar, Ben Leale-Green, Don Manuwelge, Adam Mather, Angus McKenzie, Akash Multani, Angus Parker, Gurjit Sandhu and Neville Talbot.

Win or bust for the twos
The twos welcome Hornsey to the Green. Win and the twos are promoted. Lose and, well, they might still be promoted. But that’s not go there unless we need to; Blake van der Linde’s side simply need to get the job done.

Batting-wise Sami Shori has been the man who has caught the eye. He’s scored 353 league runs in 2025 at 32.09. Given that he’s spent a few weeks in the ones, that’s not a bad effort at all. Sanjit Sandhu (280 at 28) has been predictably reliable, Varad Rampal (261 at 26.1) has also been productive for both the twos and indeed the threes.

With the ball, South African speedster Callum Watson has been one of the bowling stand outs. He’s snuffled 24 wickets at 17.4. Skipper Blake van der Linde also has 24 victims to his name, and at a slightly better average (16.5). Anush Ganesh has also stepped in whenever required, and he can be pleased with the 12 league wickets he’s taken (at an average of 21).

On Saturday the twos are looking good. The skipper returns after a week on the treatment table, and Nikhil Nomula misses out on ones’ selection so plays for the twos. Throw in Sami Shori and the twos really couldn’t be much stronger.

The 2nd XI is Blake van der Linde, Margin Kantilal, Phil Nash, Greg Nielson, Nikhil Nomula, Varad Rampal (wk), Sanjit Sandhu, Sami Shori, James Smith, Callum Watson and Ethan Wright.

Threes finish season against Hornsey
The threes could finish as high as third or as low as seventh. Division Three of the third tier really is a close one. Either way, the campaign has been noticeably better than the 2024 season and skipper Robbie Bosier can be justifiably proud of his team’s efforts.

Oli George, the Prince of Broom Road, has again been a rock of stability. He’s managed 463 league runs at 35.62. Given that he’s playing on uncovered wickets, that’s a really impressive season’s work. Nishan Singh (255 at 25.5) has also quietly caught the eye whilst Dev Tomlinson comes in with an average of 28.7. If only he could get more cricket games into that busy social diary of his!

Singh has quietly excelled with the ball, too; 25 wickets at 23.2 says he’s really come to the fore in his first season at the club. Praween Siriwardena is also on the 25 mark (average 11.6) as the two of them fight it out to be leading wicket taker in the threes this season. Skipper Robbie Bosier has also done well; 21 wickets at 23.7 is a decent effort.

The 3rd XI is Robbie Bosier, Mo Ahmad, Kev Cavilla, Rohith Doma, Anush Ganesh, Oli George, Jonty Hunt, Ali Jennings, Nishan Singh, Praween Siriwardena and Dom Thamby.

Now or never for the fours
The fours are licking their lips at the thought of a promotion showdown with Ealing Trailfinders 3s. Whoever wins goes up. Simples.

The fours go into the game with a predictably strong side. Bowling has arguably been their stronger suite, but the likes of Shah Bozdar (238 runs at an eye-catching 59.5) and Frankie Lingemann 193 at 24.6) have done commendably with the bat.

It is nonetheless with the ball where the fours have really gone to town. Mehran Iqbal has 38 league wickets (at a miserly 6.61) and Shah Bozdar has 29 (at 9.34). The skipper, Hinay Dassani, has also been his usual metronomic self with 26 at 13.58. Eye-catching stuff.

The 4th XI is Hinay Dassani, Shah Bozdar, Andy Donelan, Milan Gurjal, Mehran Iqbal, Jarryd Knott, Akshay Kumar, Frankie Lingemann, Monish Malhotra, Meer Saeed and Liam Tebb (wk).

Fives are on a mission
Like the fours, the fives know that they need 10 points from their final game to (hopefully) achieve their season’s goal; staying up.

Sure, they’ll need SKLP 4s to slip up against Chiswick 4s as well, but Chiswick have already been crowned champions and are going well. You get the feeling that if the fives win then they really could pull off the Great Escape.

Skipper Jon Bosier has led from the front. He’s hit 355 runs at an average of 25.3. He won’t, however, be there on Saturday, but he’ll be hoping that the return of Zafar Ali and Saul Croxford makes up for that.

Bowling-wise Puneet Sahota plays. He’s got stronger as the season has gone on, taking 15 league wikcets at 13.8. Saturday’s skipper, Harmeet Singh, has also been round the houses and knows how to eek batsmen out. He’ll be looking to push his season’s wickets’ tally up close to 20.

The 5th XI is Harmeet Singh (c), Harry Tebb (vc), Zafar Ali, Bart Boyd, Pete Burke, Saul Croxford, Sean Daly (wk), Rishabh Gulati, Paul McLoughlin, Puneet Sahota and Adam Tebb.

For one last time, go well everyone.
